Invitation to join and cover

Let us not forget

Today is the 4th month anniversary of the Amptuan massacre that killed 58 persons, including 32 members of media. Two of the victims were lensmen — Jepon Cadagdagon of Saksi News and Reynaldo “Bebot” Momay of Midland Review whose body remains unaccounted for. Thus, on this month’s commemoration of the tragedy, colleagues from the Philippine Center for Photojournalism (PCP) will take lead.

The PCP will be joined by the National Union of Journalists of the Philippines, Freedom Fund for Filipino Journalists, November 23 Movement, Malacanang Press Corps, Defense Press Corps, PNP Press Corps and other organizations. Participants will gather today in front of FEU in Morayta street at 5 pm and march to the historic Mendiola bridge, bearing torches and pictures of all 32 media victims. A short program will be held at the foot of the bridge, near the statue of Chino Roces, a journalist and icon of the fight for democracy during the dark period of martial rule.

Please join us. Let us not forget the November 23, 2009 carnage that left at least 58 families without their loved ones. If we start forgetting the horror and pain, then we allow impunity and injustice to bloom and grow, and for press freedom and democracy to wilt and die.

Please join us.

Let us not forget.
