ALERT: Radio blocktimer found dead in Maguindanao

The body of a radio blocktimer who had gone missing for two weeks was found in Maguindanao province Saturday (Sept. 1), the National Union of Journalists of the Philippines-Kidapawan Chapter reported.

Eddie Jesus Apostol, co-host of the blocktime program “Konseho sa Kahanginan” (Council on the Air) on radio station dxND in Kidapawan, was found in the Liguasan Marsh near Sultan sa Barongis town, said NUJP Kidapawan chair and dxND programming director Malu Manar.

Col. Prudencio Asto, public affairs chief of the Army’s 6th Infantry Division, told Manar that Apostol, a former town councilor of Magpet, North Cotabato and a known “treasure hunter”, was hogtied and had been shot twice in the head.

Apostol’s brand-new red Honda XRM-125 motorcycle and a still unknown sum of money were missing, although his press card was recovered.

Manar said Apostol was still an active radio blocktime co-host before his death. However, it is not yet certain if his murder was connected to his work or may have been related to his treasure-hunting activities.

Apostol was last seen going with an unidentified man to an alleged treasure-hunting site near the border of Pikit, North Cotabaot and Datu Piang, Mindanao on Aug. 20. He had gone missing since.

Manar said Apostol and other hosts of the “Konseho sa Kahanginan” discussed only developmental issues and mainly interviewed local government unit officials about their programs and projects.

Rep. Angelo Palmones of Agham Partylist sponsors the program, which first went on air last June 8, 2011.
