ABS-CBN fires veteran reporter Wheng Hidalgo, 19 others

110 dismissed since June 16, 2010

20 more Kapamilya workers were dismissed by ABS-CBN after the Department of Labor and Employment reaffirmed that Internal Job Market personnel are regular employees last August 13, 2010.

The reaffirmation of IJM workers' regular employment status was the basis for granting IJM union's petition for certification election reversing the labor department's previous decision.

 
International radio station reports mass termination in ABS-CBN

Through the initiative of the International Federation of Journalists, Radio Labour, an international labour movement global radio station, aired the story of mass termination in ABS-CBN, in its Solidarity Report segment last August 22, 2010.

Producer and host Marc Belanger reported 31 media workers of ABS-CBN were fired because they "refused to accept poorer working conditions."

Belanger is a labor educator who headed the Workers' Activities Program of the International Labour Organization. Prior to ILO, he worked as communications specialist for the Canadian Union of Pubic Employees.
