Court orders arrest of Cebu journalist
The Regional Trial Court handling the libel case against veteran Cebu journalist Leo Lastimosa yesterday issued a warrant for his arrest.
Lastimosa is the station manager of dyAB, news anchor of ABS-CBN Cebu and a columnist of the newspaper The Freeman.
Judge Geraldine Econg yesterday signed a one-page order finding probable cause against Lastimosa.
The libel case was filed by Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia for Lastimosa's column published in the Freeman on April 14 this year. Titled "Paugat ni Gwen", it criticized the alleged anomalies committed during the preparation for the 12th Summit of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations in Cebu, including the construction of the Cebu International Convention Center, the governor's centerpiece project.
Bail was set at P10,000.
