Journalist gets death threat on his birthday

A reporter of a tabloid newspaper yesterday received a hideous birthday gift when he received a threatening text message on his mobile phone.

Jet Sinocruz, of tabloid Abante, immediately filed a blotter at the Quezon City Police District’s Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit after he received the text message from an unknown sender.

The message read: “Bday m pala ngyn bata! Cge namnamin mn bday m dhl bka yn n mging huling bday m! Mahilig k sumagasa ngyn kayo nman sasagasaan nmin! Bday nlng!”

The message was sent from cellular phone number 09062213712.

Incidentally, Sinocruz, who was celebrating his 39th birthday, was with this writer inside the QCPD headquarters in Camp Karingal in Sikatuna, Quezon City when he got the text message.

He tried to call the phone number but it was apparently been turned off.

Sinocruz could not tell where the threat on his life could be coming from.

He said the last time he wrote sensational stories was when he did articles about a city councilor accused of extorting money from a hotel and the alleged inability of the QCPD to address the rising incidence of car theft last year.

“But I always make sure that my stories are balanced and fair,” he said.
